Our legacy
70 years ago, we opened our doors on the Hawaiian Islands for the first time and found ourselves woven into the fabric of their communities very quickly. Our first location, nestled in bustling downtown Honolulu, was an instant favorite with our customers. While this location is no longer open, our second location at Ala Moana Shopping Center still occupies its original spot to this day.
The story of Longs Drugs® truly began in 1938 when brothers Thomas and Joseph Long embarked on a mission to create a different kind of drugstore — one that would be more than just a place to pick up prescriptions. They envisioned a hub of health, wellness and community connection. And so, Longs Self-Service Drugs was born.
Shopping at Longs has been a decades-long tradition on the Hawaiian Islands. Today, with approximately 70 drug stores throughout Hawai‘i, our commitment extends beyond retail or prescriptions, it has become a cornerstone of the community.

We’ve remained a model of dependability and consistency for the past 70 years. It’s where your grandparents took you to pick out bubblegum after school, buy an air freshener for your first car or get a candy lei for graduation. It’s where you run into friends you saw the other day, and others you haven’t seen in a while.
We’re dedicated to welcoming everyone, including seniors, tourists and locals — and making sure they have access to the health care, services and products they need.

CVS Pharmacy
When CVS Pharmacy acquired us in 2008, they made a deliberate choice to preserve the Longs Drugs identity and culture in Hawai‘i. Customers are still greeted with the familiar red script logo and the same welcoming atmosphere that embodies our commitment to quality and tradition.
From the very beginning, Longs has been about more than just dispensing prescriptions; it’s a partner in maintaining well-being — a reflection of the island values that equate loyalty with respect. And now we continue that journey with CVS Pharmacy.
Our legacy lives on, fueled by the same spirit of care we've carried since we first opened. We continue to celebrate health, compassion and the enduring bond we share with our communities.
